There are some seasons of life that change you.
This is one of mine.
I started this little corner of the internet because I love baking. I love taking a handful of ordinary ingredients—flour, sugar, butter, eggs—and somehow turning them into something that makes people smile. There has always been something comforting about that process to me.
But lately, baking has become about much more than making something sweet.
It has become part of how I’m finding myself again.
When Life Changes
Losing my mom changed my world in ways I’m still learning how to put into words.
Grief is strange. Some days I can laugh, bake, make plans, and feel almost like myself. Other days, something tiny can bring everything rushing back.
A memory. A smell. A song. A thought I wish I could text her.
And suddenly I miss her all over again.
I don’t think grief is something you simply “get over.” I’m learning that you carry it with you while slowly figuring out how to keep living around it.
For me, part of that has meant finding things that give my mind somewhere peaceful to go.
One of those places is the kitchen.
Why I Bake
There’s something almost magical about baking.
You measure. You mix. You wait. And eventually, something completely different comes out of the oven.
Maybe that’s part of why I need it right now.
I can experiment with a recipe.
I can decorate something beautiful.
I can hand someone a treat and watch their face light up.
And for a little while, things feel lighter.
That feeling is part of what inspired The Conjured Crumb Bakehouse.
Sweet treats made with a little magic.
Because sometimes that little bit of magic matters more than we realize.
Becoming Healthier Without Giving Up What I Love
At the same time, I’m also on a weight-loss journey.
And that creates an interesting challenge when one of the things you love most is baking.
I don’t want my journey toward becoming healthier to mean that I suddenly have to be afraid of food—or give up the joy of creating it.
Instead, I’ve started looking at recipes differently.
Can I add more protein?
Can I make this a little lighter?
Can I change an ingredient without sacrificing the texture?
Can I make something that tastes indulgent but still fits into the life I’m trying to build?
Sometimes the answer is yes.
Sometimes the experiment is a complete disaster.
And sometimes I accidentally create something I can’t wait to make again.
I want to share all of that here—the successes and the kitchen disasters.
More Than a Baking Blog
So this probably won’t be a perfectly polished baking blog.
It will have recipes, of course.
There will be cakes, muffins, scones, breads, cinnamon rolls and plenty of experiments happening in my kitchen.
But there will also be conversations about grief.
About losing weight.
About learning to take care of myself.
About starting something new when life hasn’t exactly gone according to plan.
And about figuring out who I am in this next chapter.
Because right now, my life isn’t just one thing.
I’m healing.
I’m changing.
I’m creating.
I’m trying to become healthier.
And I’m building something that I’m excited about.
Some days I may take huge steps forward. Other days, simply getting through the day may be enough.
Both count.
Welcome to My Kitchen
If you’re here because you love baking, I’m glad you found me.
If you’re trying to lose weight without giving up everything you love, you’re welcome here too.
And if you’re carrying grief, rebuilding your life, or simply trying to figure out what comes next…
I hope you’ll stay awhile.
Maybe we’ll make something delicious.
Maybe we’ll make some healthier versions of our favorites.
Maybe we’ll talk about the hard stuff.
And somewhere between the flour-covered countertops, recipe experiments, tears, laughter, and fresh-from-the-oven treats, maybe we’ll find a little magic in the mess.
Welcome to my journey.
